The XPFC Powerpoint Presentation Library

Here is a collection of Microsoft Powerpoint presentations based upon a set originally prepared for an XC presentation in El Segundo, California back in June 1995. They are focused on the OS/390 JES2 version of XPFC and cover a number of highly relevant topics.

You are welcome to download any of these and use them in their "issue form" or modify them as necessary. They were created using Powerpoint 97, and should be usable under later editions of Powerpoint under Windows 98/NT etc… They may be printed using standard Powerpoint features.

They are all self extracting .zip files - the file size shown is the ZIP'ped file size Just download and run the .exe file you require, choose the destination directory and go !

The timings shown are for guidance only - the "PPT Slideshow" time is the time taken for a PC based automatically sequenced slideshow, whilst the "Human Version" time is an approximation of the time that should be allowed for the same presentation to be given as a classroom presentation, and allowing for additional presenter narrative to be incorporated.

3800-Xerox Transition Walkthru (File xpfc3800.exe - 58k)

XPFC has powerful and flexible support for "IBM 3800 to Xerox LPS" transition.

This detailed presentation shows how 3800-oriented JCL parameters such as PAGEDEF, FORMDEF, CHARS/UCS, MODIFY & OPTCD=J or TRC=YES may all be easily and safely mapped to DJDE packet(s).

Runtime: PPT Slideshow - 20 mins, Human Version - 50 mins

Technical Walkthru (File xpfctech.exe - 139k)

This "Technical Walkthru" slideshow is aimed at those people who wish to acquire a good technical understanding of XPFC and how it fits into the OS/390 JES2 environment.
Areas covered in general terms are - XPFC aims & objectives, installation, overview of XPFC operation, and a technical appreciation of the Configurator File structure & content.

Runtime: PPT Slideshow - 30 mins, Human Version - 90 mins

System Internals (File xpfcints.exe - 52k)

This presentation concentrates on the ONLINE version of XPFC.

It goes into some detail about how XPFC operates within the JES2 environment, JES2 Control Blocks and how XPFC uses them, and an overview of internal XPFC actions at each of the JES2 EXIT points where XPFC is active.

Runtime: PPT Slideshow - 20 mins, Human Version - 50 mins

The XPFC Quick Start Deck Library

The XPFC "Quick Start Deck" comprises a set of Configurator Files which use several popular JCL to DJDE packet mapping schemes with a set of associated LPS based FDL and PDL files. Any one of these Configurator Files may be chosen, depending upon site standards, to aid in rapid XPFC implementation.

All "Quick Start Deck" files are supplied in source form, so that users can adopt them and implement changes to satisfy any new or local requirements.

On the XPFC issue tape, there are a number of Quick Start Decks that have been constructed to help get you quickly started with the minimum of hassle and learning.

We've recreated a selection of these here to show you the different approaches that users adopt when converting to Xerox LPS's and XPFC, and you'll see that we've catered for the most common "mappings" - such as the FORMS parameter in the JCL mapping onto JDE's on the LPS.

We've converted these various Quick Start Decks to Microsoft WORD 6 format so you can download any of them to see for yourself what they look like. They've all been compiled into self extracting .zip files.

PAGEDEF to **PREFILE Quick Start Deck

Standard Default Quick Start Deck (file configa.exe - 23k)

This is a simple "get you started" version which exploits the CHARS JCL sub-parameters to control the selection of specific cover sheet(s), output styles and simplex/duplex control.

FORMS to JDE Quick Start Deck (file configb.exe - 28k)

This is the popular FORMS to JDE Quick Start Deck which provides a simple and straightforward solution to LPS conversions - the incoming FORMS parameter in the JCL is mapped into a specific JDE on the LPS.

PAGEDEF to JDE Quick Start Deck (file configc.exe - 28k)

This is the PAGEDEF into JDE Quick Start Deck which provides a neat conversion route, and additionally maps the CHARS parameters into a DJDE command to override the default font.

SYSOUT Class to JDE Quick Start Deck (file configd.exe - 27k)

For those users who have organized their print workload around the SYSOUT Class, then this SYSOUT Class into JDT Quick Start Deck will get you up and running in no time!

Alternate PAGEDEF to JDE Quick Start Deck
(file confige.exe - 29k)

This is the PAGEDEF to JDE Quick Start Deck which provides a neat conversion route, and additionally maps the CHARS parameters into a DJDE command to override the default font........... this is similar to the previous "PAGEDEF to JDE" version ...... EXCEPT that there are no XPFC cover sheets produced ...... the JES2 generated banner (cover) page(s) are retained

FORMS to **PREFILE Quick Start Deck (file configf.exe - 28k)

For installations where the Xerox LPS is located at a remote location, or where it has been decided to control the LPS from a central point, then the FORMS to **PREFILE Quick Start Deck is worth considering.

Using this approach, all the necessary LPS controls are inserted into the print data-stream selected from a **PREFILE section according to the FORMS JCL parameter value, ahead of each and every SYSOUT dataset ………… so virtually no LPS (operator) activity is required.

This approach is especially effective where there are multiple remote LPS's because all the controls are embedded in the print data-stream by XPFC, thus there's no need to keep printer resources updated and "in step".

PAGEDEF to **PREFILE Quick Start Deck (file configg.exe - 29k)

The PAGEDEF to **PREFILE Quick Start Deck is a variation on the previously described "FORMS to **PREFILE" Quick Start Deck - the only difference being that selection of a **PREFILE section is based upon the PAGEDEF JCL parameter value.

Bulk Input Services for UNIX - BIS (file PB-47.pdf - 27k)

UNIX and Windows/NT print servers will have to accept "legacy" systems and they will be faced with the problem of dealing with (bulk) print data originating from these conventional/legacy host mainframe systems on Open reel tape, cartridge or by a proprietary file transfer mechanism(E.G: FTP). BIS is designed to address this need….. BIS V1R1 provides comprehensive support for the input of a wide range of IBM industry standard open reel and 3480/3490 cartridges and creates a wide range of file formats acceptable to UNIX host systems.

VIPP support for UNIX ROLO/XPFC V3R1 (file PB-46.pdf - 26k)

VIPP (formerly XGF) support was originally developed for XPREP, the variant of XPFC for UNIX that runs under Xerox Corporation's DPServer for AIX print server software.
