Online or Offline ? Why Have to Choose ?

Unlike the original IBM version of XPFC, the UNIX variant of XPFC provides both online and offline capabilities in the same package, thus providing maximum operational freedom and flexibility.

The basic XPFC Configurator File remains fully compatible, thus maintaining maximum flexibility - you can decide whether to use online or offline spooling "at the last minute".

However ................... if you intend to use both online and offline XPFC, you should be aware of the specific differences that exist between some DJDE constructs and commands in the online environment and their offline equivalents. These differences are detailed the relevant Xerox documentation.

Many installations run online XPFC as the "preferred" operational mode, but use the offline variant for offloading peak loads, or even as a back-up service should it ever be necessary to offload a print load (maybe because of XPS outage) to run on an external (bureau ?) XPS service.

Some installations also favor offline spooling for big print runs because it does not require a mainframe service to be run in order to support the XPS printing operation.

........................ the choice is yours !
