The XPFC/3800 Feature

This well established V3R3 XPFC feature provides support for easy and safe transition from IBM 3800 printers to any of the high volume LPS's ..... even the 48.. range !

It's already supported a very demanding IBM 3800-Xerox 9790 conversion - this Case Study will give you an insight.

XPFC/3800 accesses JCL parameters normally associated with driving IBM 3800 features and enables their use through standard XPFC Configurator File features.

Additionally, the usual XPFC (optional) "fail safe" Configurator File checking features are also provided, to ensure that only permitted JCL parameter values are passed through as legal DJDE control sequences.

However, for users that implement XPFC/3800 for migration to the Xerox LPS environment, need to be aware that the CHARS subfields referring to 3800 fonts are interpreted in a special manner by some standard XPFC features.

The major operational impact is that when ex-3800 users migrate to XPFC/3800, and continue to use the CHARS subfield to specify font names, then they will be usually restricted to using the default Start-of-Job cover sheet and the default Start-of-Dataset cover sheets. This is explained in detail in the user reference manual.

Online and offline (tape/cartridge) versions are available - all the features and functionality remain equally applicable to the offline mode of operation. This compatibility will be attractive for those installations where they may wish to offload large print jobs to tape for printing at some later time, or maybe just so that the print files can be secured/archived.

XPFC/3800 is an integral part of XPFC - there are no specific additional installation tasks or MVS/JES2 system support considerations.
