XPFC ACCOUNT for MVS/JES2

XPS Accounting ..... Here's a Few Questions for You
Here are a few serious questions about how you manage, control, and pay for your Xerox Laser Printing System (LPS)....

Can you reconcile those "click" usage charges from Xerox ?

What is ACTUALLY being printed on the LPS ? - Do you really need to print all this ?

Can you identify which jobs were printed yesterday ?

How do you investigate "lost" output claims from users ?

Who were the 5 biggest consumers of paper ?

Which projects/users exceed budget on output levels ?

Why do some LPS jobs print faster than others ?

What is average LPS throughput rate ? ...... for every LPS ?

Can you show how your workload is shared amongst multiple LPS's ?

Why is LPS throughput so different during certain shifts ?

If more jobs used duplex, would it reduce costs ?

How would you judge the effect of using "2-Up Duplex", or even "4-Up Duplex" for all that general "in-house" LPS output ?

Would it be helpful to incorporate LPS usage in your main system accounting/charging/monitoring reports ?

Can LPS work be rescheduled to improve prime time service ?

How do you monitor reprints ?

Are there any suspicious jobs being run ?

How do you monitor all that "non-specific" LPS output ?

How do you monitor paper, and special stock, usage ?

Is more LPS capacity needed ?

See ........... all relatively simple questions ....... but do you have any of the answers ?

The Simple Solution .........
XPFC ACCOUNT provides a fast, exceptionally accurate, and effective method of processing usage information from one or more Xerox LPS's, that in turn may be servicing one or more host systems/mainframes.

These "other" hosts/mainframes do not need to run MVS/JES2, and may include other systems such as DEC, UNISYS, BULL, or ICL.

XPFC ACCOUNT provides an instant and dramatic solution to LPS printer utilisation analysis, yet requires virtually no Systems Programming effort.

The XPFC ACCOUNT package is for use with all MVS/JES2 systems. There is also a version available for UNIX.

XPFC ACCOUNT releases Installation Management from the risks and inaccuracies of manipulating host generated/derived statistics relating to LPS usage. Now ALL LPS output information can be processed as a single host based function, with XPFC ACCOUNT providing numerous user "hooks", and ample opportunities to deal with any site "specials", or ad-hoc type usage reports.

In the Case Study you can download the two reports that are provided as part of the Quick Start Deck so you can see what's available. Many users take the XPFC ACCOUNT data, manipulate it to suit their own needs, and do further processing using generally available utilities. Here's some examples to show what can be easily achieved with just a little effort.

XPFC ACCOUNT supports online, offline, and "local" LPS usage, and is naturally and automatically 87xx, 97xx, and 4xxx model compatible. Mixed LPS model environments are fully supported with the identity of each LPS being incorporated in individual statistics records.

The XPFC ACCOUNT "Quick Start Deck" supplied enables safe and fast installation and initial exploitation - everything you need on the IBM host is supplied, and can be easily customized by users as necessary.

The Quick Start Deck immediately provides comprehensive user reports, and a management summary report, and which may satisfy the majority of user requirements.

Extending XPFC ACCOUNT reports is equally simple, and effectively becomes a simple and routine COBOL/4GL/Spreadsheet programming task.

Customising XPFC ACCOUNT Reports......
Data formats used within XPFC ACCOUNT are easily handled and manipulated - special efforts have been made to ensure that the data format is acceptable to all the likely programming languages, 4GL type report generators, and for import to the main spreadsheet system packages.

Source code for the report utilities is supplied to permit fast and easy tailoring of reports if the standard reports are found not to be adequate.
